I am so excited to finally share a great new pattern that is being released today by Betz White. It’s called The Metro Hipster, and I had the great pleasure of testing this pattern out for her awhile back. If you are not familiar with Betz White, you’ll have to go over and visit her blog. Not only does she design bags, but she is a published author and makes the most A-mazing things with felt! She is currently hosting a Stitch-along Ornament Club with beautiful ornaments made with felt, ribbons and beads. Gorgeous!
The Metro Hipster has a roomy front pocket with metal clasp closure, a nice interior pocket and recessed zipper for security. The pattern calls for waxed canvas for the exterior accents, but for my version I used a mid-weight home decor print and brushed denim for the exterior with no problem. I used marine vinyl for the straps (she calls for nylon webbing) and a soft green Kona cotton in the interior. The pattern is very versatile so any number of fabrics could be used in my opinion.
I would say this patten would rate as a comfortable beginner. This pattern calls for a recessed zipper (which was newer to me) so a level of confidence is needed for this part, but the rest is pretty straight forward, so go for it!! My *favorite* part of her pattern -besides the finished product- is the visual directions given in the pattern. Wowzers!! My visual brain said thank you!! Congrats Betz on your new release!
