Help! Buried Alive!

I have never lived with this much snow in my life.  The wind, sub-zero temperatures, the constant flakes in the sky are unbelievable.  The past week or so we’ve had SO much snowfall, but if the forecasters are correct we might have a slight thaw later this week! I think temperatures in the 40’s may feel like shorts weather.  With the boys having a few snow days and today starting their “mid-winter break” (never heard of this one) I thought I’d share a little bit of what we’ve been up to.

The teenager having a WWF Smackdown with his dad. It got ugly, but the dad won after lots of snow was deposited on teenagers face and neck. Score!! Do you sees the nice grey snow pants my kid is wearing? Yeah, they are MINE! The snow fairy somehow ‘misplaced’ his….hmph.

In Virginia, we’d have snow. It would melt, then we’d get a little more. Up here it adds up..and up…and up… It’s up to our mailbox now.  And our deck has almost disappeared. The boys have been loving it though because it’s so deep you can make tunnels and paths all over the yard.  They’ve been calling them Hobbit Holes or Dig-Dug.

In our neighborhood they have tall metal markers spray painted orange on the tips to guide the snowplows so they know where they’re going in the snow. I had never seen them until we moved here, so now I wonder what they do when the snow covers them?! I guess they have to rely on the stop signs…they are not covered yet!!

I have managed to do a bit of sewing though. I finished my first friendship block, and was able to make up the rest of the 3″ block needed to start the bigger blocks.  A long process, but not hard. Here is the the first one.

I’m going to work on some Patchwork blocks this week in between ski lessons and scout meetings.  I am also going to start planning what I want to do with the beautiful leather shoulders I got in the mail last week! What are your plans for the week? Cindy

  1. The quilt block looks great. Geeze, you might as well move up to Canada! We had a lot but it melted, so you do have way more than us now!

    • It’s finally starting to melt and it was actually 42 today. I swear I could have worn shorts it felt so good!! Tomorrow it is going to be 50~~ I may swoon!! xo Cindy

  2. I’m glad your boys are enjoying the snow. We’ll see the possibility of snow in the forecast up until Mother’s Day. If you are near a fire hydrant… Have the boys dig it out (that’s my job on our street 😉

If we receive more snow here in Central NY, the snow plows will raise their blade and push back the snow lining the neighborhood roads. This setback, tiered effect makes visibility better. The plow drivers are awesome… They’ve got this down to a science.

It’s nice to gaze out at the winter wonderland while I’m sewing, especially after shoveling snow off the roof. (I’m north of you) I count it as my exercise for the day.

    Hang in there, stay warm.

    • Mother’s Day?! Wowzers! We live on a corner, so when we plow we wait until after the town plow comes through and get closer to our property to widen the street for the neighborhoods. Our snow plows come through all the time and they do know their stuff. Better yet, they come before storms!!! (I’ve lived in a few places that came during or after the storm – totally unorganized).

      Stay warm yourself! Cindy
