If you’ve read my blog or searched the archives, you know how much I love to test handbag patterns for wonderful designers. It’s a great way to learn new skills and in the end you have gorgeous bag to enjoy! Today I’m excited to show you the Cora Handbag, a new pattern by SOTAK Handmade.
Although I wear handbags of all shapes and sized, the boxed tote style gets used the most. Cora’s finished shape comes in at 12 ½” wide x 11” tall x 4” deep. It’s a classic style that I think any level sewist would enjoy making. If you’re a beginner and zippers are not your friend yet, leave them out! If you are experienced you can add the included zip closure and add some to the inside too!
In addition to the zipper options, the boxed bottom is extremely easy to sew up as are the two exterior pockets with bias contrast on top.
Cora will need about 3/4 of a yard of exterior, interior and contrasting (strap/bottom/etc) fabrics.
I used a home decor weight on both interior and exterior as well as upholstery vinyl on straps, bottom and accents. It made for a super, super, sturdy bag! Add some zippers, SF101 or Foam interfacing and you’re ready to go.
Here’s a close-up of the zippered closure. You can easily substitute this for a magnetic snap.
Isn’t this a cute bag?! If you’d like to give her a try, head over Svetlana’s shop and grab a copy! Better yet, for the next 48 hours the pattern is available for an introductory price of $6.00 (after that the price will go up to its regular $8.00)!
