The past week has been a busy one, but in the best possible way. My in-laws came up for a visit from Florida and spent a few days with us. It’s hard to arrange these visits with us now living in NY, so it was a wonderful gift to have them here. We won’t see them again until mid-July. I didn’t do much sewing this past week. Most of my time was spent on the legal side of Raspberry Sunshine. But all is good to go now and my shop is officially OPEN HERE! I also spent a lot of time taking photos of some new bags and a few other items that will be listed in the shop in the next few weeks. I can’t wait to share it with you.
As part of (a very late entry) Selfish Sewing Week, I did manage to stitch up this super-cute quick pattern by Betz White. It’s called the Stitch & Stash Project Bag and besides coming in 3 sizes, it is a really fast sew and good for beginners. I made my bag in the medium size to hold my yarn and current WIP. Not sure what it will be yet. Scarf? Probably, as it is the only thing I can do!!
What I really like about this bag is that I can fold the top down to use the strap as a handle and have better access to my work. Each side also has snaps that lets up close up the top a bit if you are not using the bag.
I am thinking about making another one using some laminated cotton to see how it does on the beach. I have some cute Tula Pink laminate that would be perfect for a larger version of this bag. Another thing to put on my to-do list!
My current WIP is actually a garment. For ME! I have not sewn any sort of garment for myself in a good 15 years but when I saw this adorable outfit on Kokka-Fabric.com. It is titled: キャミソールドレス which translates to Camisole Dress. I’m 5’10”, so it won’t exactly be a dress!! Scroll through the post and you can see a detailed tutorial and a way to print out a copy of the pattern. I used an app on my iTouch to translate, but it’s been pretty easy and I am about 90% done.
Please be sure to check back tomorrow and I’ll share my completed Camisole-Dress…if I can bribe one of the boys to take a few shots of me in it!
